Synthwave has always seemed to hold some attraction for rock and metal fans, as theirs a definite, if hard to discern, connection there. Carpenter Brut capitalises on that connection and the results are... well, it’s just fucking cool.
Igorrr is perhaps the most singularly and sincerely unique band in extreme metal. Such is the fluidity and cohesiveness of the sounds combined here that genres and descriptors like those cited previously cease to apply, and the truest label one could give the band is simply 'Igorrr', a genre unto themselves.
The result of a singular creative voice with the help of similarly talented friends, Öxxö Xööx is a wonderfully creative corruption of doom-adjacent extreme music, with multiple genre influences, fascinatingly complex instrumentals, and another world-shattering vocal performance from Laure Le Prunenec.
It's grindcore-meets-early-Fantomas, strengthened by the distinct production of Gautier Serre who adds an even more agitated atmosphere. Like a digital reconstruction of extreme metal through the lens of experimental noise, Whourkr really are in a prestigious league of one.
Corpe-Mente is perhaps more mellow than some related bands but labelling them as such is disingenuous. This is a dynamic, glorious, curious venture into a trap-infused, stunningly peculiar, rock opera of otherworldly impact.
With Ele Ypsis, Laure Le Prunence and Stelian Derenne have fused neoclassical delights with gentle electronics to create an electrifying, innovative sound that, unsurprisingly, is further bolstered by spectacular vocals.
