311: DIO

When Ronnie James Dio left Black Sabbath, with drummer Vinny Appice in tow, he already had plans for his next venture. That venture was, of course, Dio.

Dio functioned perfectly as a showcase for what had already been established via his stints in Rainbow and Black Sabbath – Ronnie James Dioโ€™s voice and lyricism were without equal. RJD is, without question, one of the greatest singers heavy metal has ever seen. His small stature would betray the powerhouse voice he could unleash.

While the rest of the bandโ€™s lineup saw many changes over their near-thirty-year run, RJD always made sure to be surrounded by some of the very best musicians around. And this certainly was evident with the lengthy string of hit songs and popular albums.

Across twenty years, Dio released ten studio albums, and each is a powerful heavy metal album in its own right, of course improved by the presence of one of the greatest voices weโ€™ve ever had.

Ronnie James Dio sadly passed away in 2010, but the legacy he left behind – not only with Dio, but Rainbow, Elf, Black Sabbath, and Heaven & Hell also – lives on in forever in the annals of heavy metal history.

Rest In Peace, Ronnie ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿป
