As if fronting Immortal Bird and drumming for Thrawsunblat wasn’t enough, Errant is the solo project of the ridiculously talented Rae Amitay.
Errant is quite a new project, having only released a single EP this far – but that EP was one of the best things I heard in 2020. Clocking in at less than 17 minutes, the amount this EP achieves with just 3 original tracks (plus a fantastically handled cover of Failure’s ‘Saturday Saviour’) is incredible. As I mentioned earlier, this EP was one of the best things I heard in 2020, and with good reason.
Amitay is a ridiculously talented artist, covering all instrumentation, writing, and vocals. The result is a sort of blackened post-metal, blackgaze mix. The guitars can be pretty, grungy, or outright sinister, and the vocals also swing from death metal growls to strong cleans.
I sincerely hope Rae Amitay has more to say with Errant, because the mark it left on me with a handful of tracks tell me there is a lot of reasons to be excited about the future of this project.
