Smoulder are a young Canadian band creating some amazing, doom-tinged traditional metal. They still very much subscribe to the swords and sorcery themes of the power metal scene that came up in Europe in the 70s.
Vocalist Sarah Ann commands a powerful presence, her soaring voice serving as a guiding light leading us through the storm of heroic sounding riffs.
Smoulder wear their influences on their sleeve, and they are influences and a general sound that don’t get nearly enough attention in 2021. They create fantasy-driven tales of heroes and swords, and do so with a true talent and an incredible sound. It’s a fun and epic throwback to “metal proper” and makes for some incredibly catchy hooks and gripping riffs, something I’ll always come back to.
