Temple of Void’s latest album has been getting a lot of attention from critics, but also from me, as I kept finding my way back to it for a few spins here and there since it dropped last March.
Temple of Void are basically death/doom, but with this fantastic traditional metal twist that just works for me. This is like meat and potatoes metal but with substantially more bit.
It scratches a very specific itch for me. Perhaps its traditionalism and structure is a counter to the unquantifiable rule-breaking extremes of Oranssi Pazuzu and Imperial Triumphant, both of which I discovered in the same period.
Temple of Void manage to imbue traditional metal elements with a refreshing death/doom twist, and the critical response stands as proof they’re onto something truly great.
